The Hon’ble Chief Justice of India declared the five-week summer vacation period to be a period of functioning of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The said summer vacation was from 18th May to 19th June (both days inclusive). The requests were made by the bar, the Hon’ble Judges Committee and the Hon’ble Judges of the Full Court. Accordingly, the Court rescheduled it.
Supreme Court Bar Association’s Resolution
SCBA passed a resolution in April urging the CJI to cancel the summer vacations. It passed the resolution in the interest of litigants and in the interest of justice. The Supreme Court lawyers will make themselves available for work during that period. It is to make good the loss of working days between March 15 and April 30 2020, or any additional days that may be lost thereafter.
The SCBA says that it is time for the CJI and the Companion Judges of the SC to take measures; to mitigate the suffering and distress of the litigating public. And to put in place fresh measures for gradually restoring the full functioning of the Supreme Court. It also mentions that theย Delhi High Courtย announced the suspension of the summer break for the High Court and all the subordinate courts in Delhi. The decision was passed unanimously by all the judges of the Delhi High Court.
