On June 9th, 2020, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held a telephonic conversation with President of the Philippines, His Excellency Rodrigo Duterte. Explicitly, the leaders discussed the steps taken by the two Governments to address the challenges arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amid the ongoing health crisis, both dignitaries expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended; to ensure the welfare of their citizens in each other’s territory. Further, the Philippines President acknowledged the steps taken by India to maintain the supply of essential pharmaceutical products to the Philippines. Prime Minister Modi guaranteed India’s commitment to supporting the Philippines against the pandemic. He highlighted that India’s well-established capacity for manufacturing affordable pharmaceutical products; including for possible vaccine once it is found, would continue to be expanded for the benefit of the entire humanity.
In addition, the dignitaries shared their satisfaction at the progress seen in recent years in all aspects of the bilateral relationship, including defense cooperation. Highlighting, India sees the Country as a crucial partner in the Indo-Pacific Region. Conclusively, Prime Minister conveyed his courtesies to President Duterte and the people of the Philippines for the forthcoming National Day of the Philippines.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held India-Australia Virtual Summit with Prime Minister Mr. Scott Morrison to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 including facilitation and support for citizens stranded in each otherโs country.
