TS Tirumurti Appointed as India’s Permanent Representative to the UN

Seasoned diplomat TS Tirumurti appointed as India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN) at New York. He is presently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The appointment was officially published on the website of Ministry of External Affairs on April 29, 2020. A 1985-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Tirumurti will succeed Syed Akbaruddin. Syed Akbaruddin, a prominent face in the Indian diplomacy, credited with successfully presenting the country’s position. Especially at the global body on a range of key issues for the last several years.

Previously, TS Tirumurti is serving as Secretary, Economic Relations at the ministry’s headquarters in Delhi. With a degree of law, Tirumurti is also a Bachelor of Commerce. The latest UN Diplomat, Tirumurti, also served in Indian Diplomatic Missions at Cairo, Jakarta, Washington DC, Geneva, and Gaza. Notably, Tirumurti was the first representative of India to the state of Palestine. Besides, TS Tirumurti has also written three books.
