MEA Appoints India’s Latest Ambassador to the State of Kuwait

On June 1, 2020, the Indian Ministry of External affairs appointed Mr. Sibi George as the next Ambassador of India to the State of Kuwait. Currently, he is an Indian Ambassador to Switzerland. Mr. Sibi George is expected to take up the Kuwait assignment quickly. Mr. Sibi hails from Kottayam District from the state of Kerala in India. A gold medallist both for his graduation and post-graduation, he also holds a diploma in the Arabic Language.

Notably, Mr. Sibi George comes from the 1993 batch of Indian Foreign Service(IFS). He was first appointed as Political Officer in Egypt. Subsequently, he moved to Indian Embassy in Doha where he handled Consular, Community, Information, and Media affairs as First Secretary. Later he served as Political Counsellor in Indian High Commission in Islamabad and as Political Counsellor and Commercial Counsellor at Indian Embassy in Washington DC.

Mr. Sibi George also served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Indian Missions in Tehran and Riyadh. In New Delhi, in the Ministry of External Affairs, he served in the East Asia Division and also as coordinator of India – Africa Forum Summit. Later, George headed the Administration, Establishment, and Welfare Divisions in the Ministry of External Affairs. Consequently, in 2014, the Ministry of External Affairs conferred on him the SK Singh Award for Excellence in Indian Foreign Service.
