Patiala Central Jail Inmates To Prepare Face Masks

The Punjab and Haryana High Court launched a project under which inmates at Patiala Central Jail will prepare face masks for the needy. Justice Rajan Gupta, Administrative judge of Sessions Division, Patiala has launched the project. He is also the Chairman of the jail committee. The project is his brainchild. In light of the COVID-19 situation, it is important to supply people with the necessary equipment to protect themselves. Justice Rajan Gupta directed every one to follow the department advisories until the advent of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Therefore, a number of under-trial prisoners have volunteered to prepare face masks without charging anything. The needy can avail the masks without any costs. The Patiala Central Jail inmates would prepare double-layered washable face masks. The office-bearers of Janhit Samiti have agreed to supply clothing for manufacturing them. The project is a great initiative to utilise the labour available in jails all across the country. However, it remains to be seen how many other states go down the same lane.

Patiala District and Sessions Court judge Justice Rajinder Aggarwal has informed of the various measures taken at Court premises. These include a hand-washing facility provided at the main gate using a foot-operated machine; another foot-operated machine on the first floor; and drinking water for lawyers and litigants.
